Locker Policy

Purpose — Paul Mitchell The School Rapid City makes lockers available to Future Professionals to facilitate the daily storage of their learning materials and items related to.their practical learning experiences. The school issues separate lockers for the storage of personal items.

Agreement — Paul Mitchell The School Rapid City manages the lockers to ensure the compliance with established rules, guidelines and procedures. Future professionals acknowledge and agree to the proper utilization of the provided lockers, and are subject to immediate termination without notice, due to the failure to comply with the established rules, guidelines and procedures. Paul Mitchell The School Rapid City staff members may access and search lockers at any time and at their discretion. Paul Mitchell The School Rapid City is not responsible for any lost or stolen articles.

Guidelines

  1. Lockers are assigned by a locker number and provided to all future professionals during Orientation. Changing locker assignments must be pre-approved by the Future Professional Advisor.
  2. Locker assignments are valid while enrolled in school. At the end of enrollment all contents must be removed from the provided locker(s). After that time, any lockers that have not been vacated will be emptied, and the contents stored for 60 days., At the end of the 60 days the contents become the property of the school.
  3. Lockers are for individual use only. Locker content is the sole responsibility of the assigned occupant. To reduce the risk of theft, future professionals are encouraged to keep their lockers locked. Future professionals should not store money, wallets, jewelry, credit or debit cards, or any other personal items of value.
  4. Paul Mitchell The School Rapid City is not in any way responsible for contents or liable for the loss of or damage to items stored in lockers. Future professionals are required to maintain the locker assigned to them in a clean, neat and undamaged condition. Marking, defacing or graffiti on lockers is not acceptable.
  5. No person shall store in a locker/purse/backpack or on their person: weapons of any kind, explosives, prohibited drugs, illegal or illicit items or substances or other items deemed by Paul Mitchell The School Rapid City to be harmful, offensive or inappropriate.
  6. Paul Mitchell The School Rapid City may in its sole discretion carry out or authorize searches/inspections for any reason. The following is a partial listing of examples of when Paul Mitchell The School Rapid City will exercise its discretion without notice:
    1. Locker abandonment.
    2. Suspected contents that may be illegal, illicit or deemed by the school to be harmful, offensive or inappropriate.
    3. At the request of or generally in cooperation with law enforcement authorities.
    4. Investigative purposes related to suspected or alleged criminal, illegal, or inappropriate activities.
    5. Risk to the general good of the school.
    6. Risk to the general good of the student or student population.
    7. Unregistered locker.
    8. Physical damage to or defacing of the locker.
    9. Odors (spoiled/rancid food, garbage or smelly contents). j. Locker maintenance or violation or inspection for State Board sanitation rules.
  7. Paul Mitchell The School Rapid City works with the local law enforcement authorities and maintains the right in the school’s sole discretion to allow law enforcement to carry out specific and random searches/inspections of locker contents. Such searches/inspections may be carried out with or without notice to or in the presence of the locker’s occupant. Such police activity may include but is not limited to: random drug or weapon searches of lockers, backpacks, book bags, brief cases, containers, jackets and winter coats.
  8. Future Professionals are responsible for their own personal items, student kit and equipment. All kit, equipment, tools, and personal items must be secured in the Future Professionals assigned lockers appropriately. South Dakota Cosmetology Commission will inspect kits, stations, and lockers of each future professional as a whole as it is your responsibility to maintain according to state laws and rules.
